out of the woods
There's two reasons it's taken me so long to write another blog:
1. I was very very sick
2. Aly and our spanish profs decided to make SO many things due this week so I have real school for the first time
Last Monday and Tuesday I was sick all day in bed with bad cold symptoms, so I missed all of the mangroves data collection days. I was sad that I had to miss our first field work days, but also I barely even got out of my bed, so it was best I stayed home. We left Bocas del Toro on Thursday and stayed in Davíd in Chiriquí for a day and a night.
As the week progressed, I wasn't getting any better. It started as a sore throat, then it just felt like a bad head cold, but on Thursday it started to move to my chest. I was really scared I had some type of tropical disease, but we still had a six hour bus ride on Friday back to the city. We got to the city Friday night, where I had a very restless night of sleep, and I went to the doctor with Yari first thing Saturday morning. The doctor immediately did a blood test and found that I only had a bacterial disease. So, I have my fifth and final dose of antibiotics tomorrow, and then I'm done!
(When I was in the waiting room of the doctor, the radio started playing If You Leave Me Now by Chicago and EVERYONE in the office started singing along (including the lab guy in the backroom).)
Because I was so sick, I had a very chill weekend to recoup. I just went to cafes with friends each day and walked around the nearest mall. Kayley (my roommate in the city) and I have been getting a lot closer so we usually hang out everynight. We watched an interesting documentary on Sunday called 14 Peaks!
We've been having Spanish class as normal (even tho this week is a lot more work) and we have an essay due on Friday and we also have to give presentation about the essay. Tomorrow we're going to the canal for our Spanish class which will be interesting. On Thursday I'm meeting with my ISP (Independent Study Project) advisor to discuss my topic. Right now, I'm thinking I want to study how the moon phases effect either a nocturnal plant or a nocturnal animal. I've been trying to enjoy the routine of the city while it lasts, because next week we'll be heading out again for another three week excursion!
Hello to everyone at home and I'm happy to say I'm almost completely better!!!
